We are looking for enthusiastic, creative, engaging and inspiring teachers who have bags of energy and love working with young people.

Paid positions are available from June 12th – July 1st and September 3rd – 9th.

Our summer schools consist of lessons in English, drama, sport and art so we are looking for highly motivated individuals who can captivate and inspire imaginations, encourage team work and help to produce a creative and fun performance at the end of the week….in English!

Therefore all teachers must be native mother tongue English speakers who enjoy working with young people.

All members of staff will be required to hold an up to date CRB/DBS – we can help you to get one if you do not already hold one.

You will be required to teach a class of approximately 15 Italian students from the age of 5 – 17. The students will be split into classes of their own age group and ability and will rotate every hour between different classes.  The students level of English varies from school to school and pupil to pupil. It is important to get to know your students quickly in order to ascertain their ability so that you know what level to teach at.

The summer schools vary in length but usually run from Monday – Friday 9am-4pm & Saturday 9.30am -12pm.  It can be extremely hot and days can be tiring for both the teacher and the student. It is paramount that you are aware of this as we must maintain high levels of teaching at all times, engaging and encouraging the pupils to work to their full potential in a fun and stimulating way at all times. It is definitely NOT a holiday! However; after school you can relax and enjoy seeing some beautiful places in Italy and eat some wonderful Italian cuisine!!

Accommodation will be provided with a host family which means that you will always be well looked after.  You will be given breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the week by your host family.  They will take you to and from school everyday unless it is in walking distance or you wish to make alternative arrangements at your own expense. They will expect you to return home at a certain time for dinner and may want to show you local sites and share their culture with you after school. It is not obligatory if offered by the family. Although it can be daunting staying in someone else’s home, it can provided wonderful experiences for both the teacher and the family in exchanging cultures and developing life long friendships.

Salary: An hourly wage plus flights. Accommodation and subsistence provided with a host family. All travel in Italy to and from work will be covered also. Paid internships which guarantee a salary of £300 per week will be available for some university students and graduates depending on whether your university is connected to the scheme.

Outline of roles: 

Art teacher: –  You will be responsible for creating props, costumes and scenery with the pupils and for teaching them the words for the equipment, shapes, textures, methods etc that you may use during the process.

Drama teacher:- You will be required to create and direct a show with the pupils in 5 days. Normally a story is chosen prior to you starting so that you can prepare before you go.  You will use drama games to stimulate creativity and enhance confidence.  All shows will include singing and movement which you will also lead.

English teacher: – Each pupil has a fun workbook to use throughout the week which includes fun activities such as spot the differences, word searches and diary pages.  You will play various word games to enhance vocabulary and stimulate conversation. You will be required to work on the script with the pupils and help with pronunciation, understanding of words and generally help them to learn their lines.

Sports teacher: – The sports sessions are to help the students work as a team, increase fitness levels and enhance co-ordination.  Sports coaches will be responsible for teaching sporting terminology and rules of play in English for sports such as; football, badminton, cricket, rounders, volleyball, basketball and relay games.
